==================================== Kundalini yoga as taught by Yogi Bhajan® is a practice that is self-correcting, enabling the body to adopt what is needed to establish overall balance and harmony. Together we will explore simple tools Yogi Bhajan offers to master the tattvas - the five qualities that make up the physical world (earth, water, fire, air and ether). Each tattva reflects its unique quality in our behaviors, habits, and constitution. We also seek to consciously balance our energy system, our chakras, which represent the gifts of the self-sensory human awakening within all of us at this time. This event is open to all levels.

==================================== Restorative yoga can be described as a supported, conscious relaxation practice for the body and the mind. No one who lives in this culture is a stranger to stress. When under stress, the body's sympathetic nervous system puts us into what's called the "fight or flight response." Blood moves from our core to our extremities (impacting digestion/assimilation/elimination), our breath shortens and our heart rate quickens. This is all very natural, only modern times can throw us into this response often, and to the degree that it never really shuts down, which is not natural. From living in chronic overdrive, we are left fatigued, weak, and more prone to illness. Restorative yoga is a gentle, therapeutic style of yoga that uses props to support the body to deepen the benefits of the poses. The body is supported to such a degree that we are able to relax completely into postures, so the muscles are opening and therefore not expending energy. From this opening our cells are able to receive more oxygen and vital energy, and release toxins more efficiently. This practice helps to trigger the parasympathetic nervous system, responsible for balancing the body and bringing its response system back into equalibrium, giving the body an opportunity to renew and heal.
The workshop begins with some simple warm-ups exercises and follows with the restorative work. Four to five restorative postures are practiced, in which you will be instructed on where to place the various blankets and bolsters so that the body is fully supported, and then spend 5-10 minutes in each. This gives ample time for the muscles to completely release and the deeper physiological benefits to unfold. You will be assisted personally if the need arises. After the restorative work we will have a final relaxation, a simple breathing practice to assist in returning you to a more alert place, and will end with some time to share some refreshments and snacks. Class size is limited, please e-mail or call ASAP. |
